Who is PPM?
We are the Bloomington, IN based life sciences company that developed the Viveda Health and Wellness Assessment. The Viveda assessment is our company’s first health and wellness product, but plans are already in the works to develop others.
Is PPM a CLIA lab?
PPM is a registered CLIA lab. We are currently working on our accreditation under the College of American Pathologists.
What are the qualifications of the PPM/Viveda team?
Our team includes professionals with expertise in medicine, laboratory analysis, biology, chemistry, informatics, and business. Dr. Stephen Naylor, PPM’s CEO, leads the team with more than 20 years experience in the health and life sciences, biotechnology pharmaceutical, and university sectors. He served on the faculty of both the Boston University School of Medicine and MIT, and also spent 10 years at Mayo Clinic. Our Clinical Lab Director, Dr. Kenneth Ryder, is a faculty member at the Indiana University School of Medicine. For the past five years, he has served as the Director of Laboratories for Clarian Health Partners in Indianapolis, IN. Our talented team has leveraged the diverse backgrounds and skills of its members to develop a quality Viveda product.
How does PPM’s analysis differ from typical clinical lab tests?
PPM’s analysis is based on a systems approach to health and wellness. We analyze networks of molecules (called bioprofile networks) to determine an individual’s current health condition. For example, our cardiovascular assessment provides a bioprofile that analyzes 47 bioindicators of cardiovascular health. This goes far beyond the typical panel offered by most reference labs.
What is a bioprofile?
A bioprofile is a comprehensive analysis of an individual's molecular status. A bioprofile provides important biological information on how an individual’s body is functioning and their current condition of health. Viveda currently offers bioprofiles in six areas: cardiovascular, hypertensive, cerebrovascular, metabolism, stress and diabetic health.
Why is a bioprofile a better way to evaluate health?
A bioprofile is a system-wide molecular evaluation of health. It offers a more accurate and comprehensive picture of health and wellness. Traveling throughout the body’s complex system in the blood stream, the molecules we analyze are affected by changes in all parts of that system. Our understanding of these molecules, including their function and how they change in response to changes in your body, makes Viveda a more accurate evaluation. The other reason Viveda is a better health evaluation is our systems approach to health. Rather than simply measuring one or two molecules, our team measures a network of molecules to get a more comprehensive picture of your health.
How can I use the information in the Viveda assessment to help my patients?
The Viveda Assessment provides you with valuable information for developing personalized recommendations for your patients. Instead of simply treating illness, you’ll be able to help your patients stay healthy by developing individualized wellness strategies.
Is the Viveda assessment predictive?
Viveda is an evaluation of an individual’s current health and wellness. The bioprofile provided in the Viveda assessment indicates your overall cardiovascular health and if an individual could be at risk for a heart attack. For example, the cardio bioprofile score indicates where an individual is located on a continuum from exceptional to poor cardiovascular health. You can use this information to help a patient understand if they are moving towards a condition of poor cardiovascular health and how they can improve or avoid it.
Do insurance providers cover the Viveda assessment?
Currently, Viveda is not covered by health insurance. Our team is working to change this, but it takes time. Viveda is new, very unique, and preventative. We believe that in the future insurance companies will realize the benefit of the Viveda assessment.
Am I required to have a trained phlebotomist on staff?
As a Viveda MD, you must be able to draw blood samples on site. If you don't currently have a trained phlebotomist on staff, do you have staff member who can be trained or re-trained? We can help you with that. In addition, PPM provides clinical packs that contain all the materials you need for a Viveda blood draw.
How much blood is drawn to complete a Viveda assessment?
The amount of blood drawn is equal to about 15% of the volume of a typical blood donation.
Is my staff required to process blood samples?
At this time, we require that you centrifuge and transfer plasma/serum to transport tubes before sending to our lab for analysis. If you don't have this capability, talk with us about how what arrangements can be made.
How do I ship blood samples to your lab for processing?
PPM provides all the shipping materials and detailed instructions for shipping blood samples to our lab. Our team works hard to make things easy and efficient for your staff.
What is the turn-around time for Viveda assessment results?
Currently, our turn-around time is 5 days. Physicians receive and must approve results before they are available to patients.
How are Viveda assessment results provided?
Viveda assessment results are provided in an attractive, patient-friendly format that is easy to read and understand. This format goes far beyond the typical “numbers only” lab report. All of the test results are represented visually, making it easy for your patient to understand what results are outside of the acceptable range for a healthy individual. In addition, definitions for each analyzed molecule are provided as well as wellness tips and resources for more information. Each assessment contains a more traditional clinical lab report so that you can quickly assess a patient’s results. The assessment will be available online for you and your patient to review and print.
